Inner Tuba On Tour -
what Inner Tuba can bring to your venue...
Feedback from past performances
Venues offer their own generous comments on the quality of
Inner Tuba performances.

This page is aimed to assist professionals in deciding that
an Inner Tuba performance is right for your people at your venue. Be you a school teacher in
mainstream or special education,
a manager of an old people's home, a support worker at a day centre for adults with
learning disabilites, a ward manager at a children's hospital, a community arts worker,
a corporate sponsor - or whatever - read on...
With experience in presenting its unique, multi faceted show to audiences of all ages,
backgrounds and abilities, Inner Tuba recognises that people with widely varied life
and learning experiences all respond favourably to its suitably pitched and easily adapted
performances.
For upcoming tours, Inner Tuba plans to visit one venue each day, for 2 - 4 hours,
before pedalling further into the itinerary. The Inner Tuba "Mainstage" show,
followed by one or more "Sideshows" is on offer to venues.
The Mainstage Show...
Housekeeping...
About 1 hour long.
Audience from 5 - 500 people
Venue requirements: A suitably sized room/hall - (or outside if its sunny) and your staff
to assist your audience with their individual and group needs. No Stage, power or PA needed.
Interactive...
Generally, The Mainstage show is lively and fun - it involves lots of question and answer, group clapping and
singing and some hands on experience of the instruments - as well as opportunities to practise
and develop the skill of listening to live performance.
A history of Brass Instruments - starting with
some sound basics...
The sound source - blowing air passed vibrating lips.
Changing the sound - across the world...
Introducing three very different lip vibrated sounds - a Conch shell from Trinidad,
animal horns from England and an Australian Didgeridoo.
Sound for communication - sound for music...
Long tubes make low sounds, short tubes make high sounds - and some tubes make can
sounds at different pitches.
Building a simple instrument for simple music...
a novice can create sound with a garden hose and funnel - and a brass player some
simple tunes. Loud and soft, fast and slow.
Demonstrating a real musical instrument...
The Sackbutt,or early trombone was a popular instrument in the Middle Ages. It was played live
by travelling musicians (Just like Inner Tuba) called Troubadours.
"Meet the Tuba"...
The latest addition to the Brass family of instruments - the biggest and (arguably) the best.
Valves lengthen and shorten the tube length, making it possible for a musician to play all
the notes needed for simple and more involved music.
A short and varied Solo Recital...
..."As importantly, I try to impress
upon listeners the truly special and unique nature of a live performance.
It is, time and again, in very diverse settings, very satisfying for me to
play to attentive audiences, who have clearly taken this message on board".
(extracted from an Inner Tuba feature in "Musician" the Journal of the Musicians' Union,
Dec 2000).
But Music isn't all... Audiences are absorbed
by all aspects of Inner Tuba...
Who rides a bicycle ? What about road safety ? Why do I ride a recumbent ? Why don't I
go by car ?
How does this suspension work ? - and the Solar panels ? Where do I sleep at night ? Lets take
some digital photographs for www.innertuba.org.uk updates... There's lots to pack in !...

Pupils from Oakwood Integrated Primary School, near Belfast, get
to grips with hosepipe music.
The Sideshows...
The sideshows are designed for much smaller groups of people, and can be very informal in delivery,
allowing spontaneous comversations to develop between group members. Sideshows are currently "under construction"
and will feature The technologies behind Inner Tuba - and more...
Renewable energy. How the dynamos, photovoltaics and batteries deliver power to the road lighting system.
Trike and Trailer. The design factors, including handling, gearing, braking, speed and safety.
Food for fuel. The physical training and nutrition required for efficient human powered travel.
Project management. The processes involved in turning Inner Tuba from an idea to a reality.
